Health & Nutrition (HAN)

IDO’s Health & Nutrition program provides health education and palliative care to ensure that individuals and communities have the knowledge and resources to lead healthy lives. We focus our efforts on communities where malnutrition is high and the need for reproductive health and HIV/AIDS awareness and education is evident.

Health and Nutrition is one of the core functions of IDO. Our health and nutrition program started in June 2011 with a HIV/AIDS Project funded by Multi-Donors Trust Fund in Unity State’ Rubkona, Kotch, Mayom and Abiemnom Counties. IDO has qualified health care and nutrition professional, making these skills as easy to secure quickly given our network.

The primary objectives of IDO’s Health & Nutrition program are to:

  • Improve access to quality health care and nutrition services for poor and marginalized communities in South Sudan
  • Improve access to water and sanitation, enabling a good environment for improved hygiene for poor and marginalized communities.

IDO also works on water and sanitation initiative as a cross cutting sector under the HAN program partnering closely with local communities. The focus is on access to water (repair of hand pumps and water harvesting), use of sun cell driven water pumps, village water committee training and household hygiene promotion and working with village water committees to construct communal latrines in clinics, IDPs sites and schools.
